Lismore Cycling Festival 2024 - General information

  • PARKING:

    • Free all day parking, opposite Oakes Oval, Dawson Street, Lismore. 

    • Entrances via Rural Street or Magellan Street - both off Dawson Street. 

  • WHAT TO BRING:

    • Supporters

    • Bike and riding gear (including a spares kit for on-the-road repairs)

    • AusCycling Race Licence or your 3rd party Rider Insurance

    • Carbs and hydration fluids

    • Mobile phone

    • Sunscreen

    • Clothing suitable for the day + rain jacket 

    • Small amount of cash if you want to buy something at The Channon General or Dunoon General stores.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT:

    • A portion of your entry will go to the charity: Rescue Helicopter Service - Lismore

    • Food and beverage retailers

    • Music

    • Cycling Buy/Swap/Sell market - bring a table and your stuff to sell/swap, and cash to buy off others.

    • Cycle industry exhibitors.

    • Crit Cross  - will take place on the Blair Oval adjacent to the Crozier Field. 

    • Cyclo-Cross Come & Try is perfect for anyone eager to experience the thrill of cyclocross. Adults are welcome to accompany participants as they navigate the course. Since it's not a race, there will be no prizes—just the satisfaction of giving it your all.

    • Changing rooms and showers 

    • Criterium

      • This will be run on closed streets within Lismore CBD. 

      • There will be some road furniture and round-a-bouts to navigate. 

      • AusCycling Road Race - Criterium Regulations apply.

      • Handicapper’s grading is final. 

      • Commissaire’s decision is final.

      • Criterium cycle racing is inherently dangerous. High speeds and riding in close proximity to other competitors are two relevant factors to this. 

      • Grades will be run separately where feasible. If safe and suitable to do so, the Commissaire may decide to run two grades concurrently, e.g. if low grade numbers permit this to be done safely. 

      • Only riders competing are permitted on the criterium course. Warming up and cooling down is allowed on the course by Commissaire permission only. 

        • If not on the Criterium Course be mindful of adherence to all NSW Traffic Rules and Regulations.

      • Prizes given for podium positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd). 

    • Gran Fondo - all distances:

      • Marshals will be on course with two main rules and one half rule:

        • You must come to a halt when told to STOP (Red sign).

        • You can continue riding when told to GO (Green sign). 

        • Half rule is - when told to HIT THE STROBE - you can dance. (Please only do this after being told to STOP 😀).

      • Assemble in the new drive and in the alley way under the new Crozier Field building, facing Magellan Street gateway.

        • 110 km route closest to the Magellan Street gate.

        • 28 km Flatlands route next.

      • Listen and watch for the safety briefing.

      • The start will be en-masse out of the driveway and left onto Magellan Street. 

        • 110km route first

        • 28 km Flatlands route immediately after.

      • It will be on closed roads to Leycester Street. 

      • From the intersection of Leycester Street and Brewster Street, the ride will continue on Speed-Reduced roads, i.e. all vehicles using the road will be subject to a maximum of 40km/hr. This will also occur within the township of Dunoon.

      • From the * The Gran Fondo ride will be on Open Roads where normal, existing speed limits apply (maximum of 80 km/hr). 

      • Officials in vehicles with orange flashing lights will be patrolling the front, middle and rear of the rider group(s). 

      • Some relevant Rider Road Rules include:

        • Always wear a helmet;

        • Only use a bicycle that complies with NSW Road Rules and/or Regulations.

        • Always ride to the left of the roadway;

        • Do not ride more than two abreast unless overtaking another rider.

        • Only overtake other riders when it is safe to do so, i.e. no waiting or oncoming traffic. 

        • Always signal your intention when turning, slowing, or stopping.

      • Some Lismore Cycling Festival Rider Rules:

        • Be courteous to all road users.

        • Always stop and render assistance, and/or call for help, for a fallen rider or rider in need of assistance.
